Artisanal Bakery & Garden Cafe
The La Motte Artisanal Bakery and Garden Café will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and a variety of tempting treats. Hours are from 08:00 to 16:00. The kitchen closes at 15:00, but guests are welcome to enjoy afternoon drinks until 16:00. Also keep an eye our for our Milling and Bread Baking experiences. Closed on Christian Religious Holidays. La Motte invites you to JAN Franschhoek Season IV, an exceptional food and wine experience presented from a charming historic cottage, the Veepos, right in the middle of the Franschhoek Valley’s most picturesque lavender fields. This exceptional, seasonal food and wine experience combines the nostalgia of a South African family table with Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen’s Michelin-star culinary innovation. The team responsible for this special, culinary experience on La Motte, is led by Chef Lara van Heerden in the JAN Franschhoek kitchen. Expect regional traditions, familiar flavours and local ingredients transformed to reflect the exciting context of modern global cuisine. Sourced and prepared with the utmost care and consideration, dishes are paired with the estate’s award-winning wines and presented with mesmerizing flair. We offer a seasonal tasting menu and wine pairing at ZAR 3400 per person. Dinner (Wednesday to Saturday) starts at 19:00 but guests should arrive at the La Motte Manor House meeting point at 18:30 on the reserved date. Sunday lunch starts at 12:30 and guests should arrive at the La Motte Manor House meeting point at 12:00 on the reserved date. Due to the nature of the JAN Franschhoek experience, it is not suitable for children under the age of 12. Please note that the food and wine experience takes place at one communal table that seats 18 people. Continuing the family’s passion for art, the Ateljee is an exciting creative space for guests to engage with artworks, artists and makers. Ateljee that will also be open 22 & 23 December. ROSE’D opened on 18 October 2025 and draws its inspiration from the flourish of spring and summer as well as the many forms of the rose. Guests are invited to step into the rose and to admire both its grandeur and delicacy, its eternal, yet fleeting beauty and all that is special about the season of the rose, from buds to blooms to petals. The exhibition showcases rose-inspired art by the acclaimed Heike Taschner Jeske, whose extensive experience developed from a childhood devotion influenced by her father, renowned rose farmer, Ludwig Taschner. This exhibition honours a longstanding collaboration between the La Motte and Taschner families as well as the two cultivars that Ludwig Taschner has named in honour of the Rupert family, the Hanneli Rupert and Berdine roses. For this exhibition, Heike’s signature installation presents an immersive, larger-than-life rose that appears to burst from the walls, blooming across the ceiling, drawing you in to experience it as though you were a tiny creature marveling at its grandeur. The installation aims to evoke a sense of wonder and intimacy, inviting viewers into the delicate beauty and construction of the rose. The exhibition is presented through an array of mediums, including monoprints, charcoal drawings, watercolours and ceramic sculptures. In addition to this immersive rose experience, La Motte invited artists through an Open Call to submit works to the theme of Flourish, deepening the universal appreciation of the rose. From the many submissions received, the top ten artworks are featured on display, while a broader curated selection will form part of the exhibition and be available for purchase. The exhibition also includes a series of engaging workshops, and visitors can purchase products crafted by the featured artists at the La Motte Farm Shop.

The generously stocked shelves of the La Motte Spens are reminiscent of an old-fashioned pantry offering all you need to prepare a wonderful meal. Enjoy artisanal breads from the La Motte Bakery, exceptional local cheeses, fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, pickles and preserves, charcuterie, Karoo-certified lamb from the farm Matjesfontein, free-range beef and of course those pantry staples such as extra virgin olive oil, raw honey, the most beautiful butter and an interesting selection of seasonings.
Hiking Trail
Explore La Motte’s flora and fauna The Sustainable Hike is a further expression of La Motte’s commitment to the highest conservation and biodiversity standards and the protection of precious indigenous flora and fauna in the mountain area surrounding the estate and the adjoining Wemmershoek mountain range. It offers the ideal opportunity to explore abundant birdlife, a protea garden, sustainably farmed vineyards, a wealth of flora, resident mammals and reptiles and the breathtaking vistas of the Franschhoek Valley. The circular route, which starts at the La Motte Tasting Room, stretches over five kilometres, with the hiking trail section covering two kilometres. The time required to complete the trail is about two hours when walking and three hours when strolling. The trail has a Grade 1B rating and requires a fair degree of fitness. It is therefore not recommended for children under the age of 10 and we do not permit infants in back packs. Prospective hikers are reminded that dogs and mountain bikes are not permitted. Maximum group size of 10. Safe convenient parking is available. Prior online booking is essential. Guests are also invited to a Guided Hike where a well-informed and passionate guide will indicate points of interest along the way while sharing information on the Fauna and Flora on the mountain slopes, the sustainably farmed vineyards, La Motte activities as well as the Franschhoek valley. Hikers receive a hiking trail map, bottle of water and will be treated to light refreshments on their return to the tasting deck. Prior online booking is essential.
